What is Starfinder?

In short: Pathfinder in Space.

A little bit longer: A science-fiction/science fantasy role-playing game by Paizo.

What is Starfinder Society?

Basically the Organized Play of Starfinder, similar to 5E’s Adventurerers League. Generally less flexibility for the players and the GM but characters can be “ported” to the games of other GMs.

Why should I play it?

Well, first it’s a role-playing game in space.

Second, in my personal opinion it is better balanced than Pathfinder.

Did I already mention that you get to be in space?

What do I need to know?

Fantasy Grounds

In order to move the story and combat along at a reasonable pace, some basic Fantasy Grounds knowledge is recommended (how to roll checks, how to target creatures, …). If  necessary, a short introduction to Fantasy Grounds can be given prior to the game.

Starfinder Rules

If you are familiar with Pathfinder or even 5E, you should be able to adapt to Starfinder pretty easily. There are some differences but nothing you have to worry about too much as a player.

If you are not familiar with Pathfinder or 5E, a short introduction to the most important rules can be given.

If you are in doubt of what you can do, the GM will hopefully be able to help you.

If you are interested in the detailed rules, you can either start with the Core Rulebook (pdf 10 USD from paizo.com) or the Starfinder SRD (free).

Character Creation

If you want to construct your own level 1 character, you might also want to take a look at the Starfinder Society Roleplaying Guild Guide (free), which contains some restrictions on what options you can use. Generally, options from the Core Rulebook are allowed, options from other official sources might be allowed.

Alternatively, you can choose one of the pregens.

In the case of Skitter Shot, you would only be able to choose special pregens, not your own characters or the standard pregens.

What is the poll previously mentioned in the title?

Basically the majority decided what specific scenario will be played:

A description of the scenarios and the poll can be found here.

Skitter Shot won the poll, so I’ll be running that.

What do I need?

An installed and updated version of Fantasy Grounds. A (free) demo version is enough.

Discord (preferably installed) as we will be using the official Fantasy Grounds Discord server.

This session will be run on the Fantasy Grounds Discord server: https://discord.gg/VKbhkSt

A headset or another way to make sure that a) you can be heard clearly and b) there is no echo.

An Internet connection.

A Paizo Organized Play number (can be provided if necessary) and a faction (see the Starfinder Society Roleplaying Guild Guide

While Skitter Shot is not a SFS scenario itself it is a Free RPG Day scenario and can be played by for Society Credit. A short description of it can be found in the poll linked above.

      Alright, thanks for the info.

I’ll probably wait little bit longer in order to give other people the option to vote.

Skitter Shot generally seems to run around 4 hours, Fugitve on the Red Planet usually 2-3 hours (unless thing go horribly wrong).

I’d really like skitter shot. It’s the only one of the poll which I haven’t played yet.

Skitter Shot currently seems to be ahead of Fugitive on the Red Planet (as well as the others). It is a fun scenario.

One player unfortunately had to cancel so only 5 players currently. As the scenario is designed for 4 players five players would work even if no other player shows up.

I have not had a chance to register – since I just found out about this con. Would i be able to take the last slot?

I am a RPG vet, new to Starfinder and FG.

Sure but we’ll just have to find a way for me to get your email address so I can send you the information. I unfortunately can’t really edit the event as it would then need to be reapproved by the admins. Maybe ask one of the admins (e.g.under Contacts) nicely?

    I hope everyone had fun.

Chronicle drafts sent out. From some of you I will still need some information (e.g. faction) though.

By now you should have received either a signed chronicle or a draft if some specifics are still unclear and I’m waiting for your input.
