Introducing Expedition to Sleeper Island a Westmarches Campaign
The Expedition to Sleeper Island is a D&D5e West Marches game based on the continent of Katashaka, which far to the southwest of Faerun. In this game the players take on the roles of explorers that have been sent to Katashaka by the scholars of Candlekeep. An outpost town has been established in this land and it is struggling to survive. This new world is harsh and unforgiving. The only information known about there area comes from the remnants of ancient scrolls discovered by Tabaxi in Chult. They tell of their people fleeing the land thousands of years ago after a great beast awoke.
Players in this campaign are free to sign up to as many or as few sessions as they are able to make. Each session you could be with a new group of people. This allows people who have busy lives, or unpredictable schedules to still roleplay and progress their character. The island has a rich history and there is a major story arc every three months. On top of this all of the DMs have their own major stories running, along with one shots, and short 2-3 session arcs. Everything has a story.
The island is harsh. Although the DMs are not adverserial, they don’t fudge the dice rolls. This can come as a shock to people used to playing in home games – they would be surprised just how much their DM ignores the dice to get the characters through their story. Characters die on Sleeper Island – it is a land full of strange and unknown dangers. Sometimes adventurers get eaten by bears. Your character may not survive, but the expedition will.
So why play here? It’s great fun. Actually having a risk of your character dying makes the successes that much more sweet. If you’ve survived it’s an achievement. Also we have a fabulous community that love to talk when they can’t play. We run around 60 sessions per month, and that number is growing steadily, and the sessions are for characters of all levels. We allow almost all UA and we add custom content to the game too. The latest additions being a housing and townbuilding expansion, and a complex crafting system. New ideas are playtested regularly.
