A Pathfinder Society Scenario designed for levels 5–9.

Click here for more details of playing Pathfinder Society at FG-Con.

Dire need begets great innovation, and Ghalcor, a cleric of Iomedae, created a revolutionary new weapon to fight the demons that poured out of the Worldwound at the end of the First Mendevian Crusade. Unfortunately, the fiends overwhelmed Ghalcor and his assistants before they could arm and trigger the weapon, but complex fail-safes sealed off Ghalcor’s tower and kept the device from falling into abyssal hands. As the Fifth Mendevian Crusade rages on, Ghalcor’s secret weapon could be the factor that turns the tide, so the Pathfinder Society has agreed to find a way past the indiscriminate safeguards to secure the device for the crusaders—a task complicated by their pushing past enemy lines.

Content in “Weapon in the Rift” also contributes directly to the ongoing storyline of the Silver Crusade faction.

Written by Nathan King.

This scenario is designed for play in Pathfinder Society Organized Play, but can easily be adapted for use with any world. This scenario is compliant with the Open Game License (OGL) and is suitable for use with the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game.

Accepting 4-6 players for this game.  I will contact players the week before the game to work out details on the PCs.  Fantasy Grounds formatted XMLs are best but I can also accept Herolab files for those with no FG experience.

I have run this, but never played it. If that’s a problem, let me know. Otherwise I have a Bard 5, Gunslinger 6, or healing Cleric 7 to bring to this and will make sure not to give anything away.

Sorry, Lordkavos. I messed up the timing…

CM, glad to have you in a game again. Nice that you have options depending on what others may have. I have no issues with you playing, if you try and meta-game I will just drop a piano on you!!!

Looks like we will be legal. I’ll wait to see how the st shakes out. I think I have something at L6 and something at L8.

With Andrew gone and only 3 of us (one needing a pregen by the sounds of it), I’d like to bring along my 5th level reach bard. So you’re free to bring either your 6th or 8th, but with a max APL of 6.75 –> 7, (5th, 7th, 7th NPC, 8th) and only 4 players, we’d need to play down in the 5-6. Your 8th level might be a bit overpowered. Then again with only 3 and an NPC, maybe we’ll need that. 🙂

Fair warning, first time in the pathfinder world, but I’m a quick learner, was going to roll a L5 Halfling Rogue if no one else is filling that role.

Vlad, just so you know this is Pathfinder Society and there are special rules in place for it. All characters must begin at 1st level and then earn Chronicles after each one-shot adventure they go through that records their gold and XP as they level.
However, if you don’t have a legal character of the appropriate level, you can play a pregenerated one that is offered by Paizo. They come in 1st, 4th, and 7th level variety. So as this is a 5-9 scenario, only the 7th level character would apply.
Seeing as this is your first time with Pathfinder, I’d recommend keeping it to something easy to handle, like a melee type or something without a lot of abilities/spells/etc. Ultimately your choice.

The only pregens I can find on the website are the L1 ones, would you happen to know where the other ones are?

      Ah, I forgot to add:

When you play a pregen, you still get a Chronicle sheet with gold and XP on it, but you then choose which of your legal characters to give that Chronicle to. You can either give it to a 1st level character (and have the gold award reduced to 500gps) or wait until you have a legal character equal in level to the pregen and then apply the credit to that one. If you don’t have a membership with Pathfinder Society atm, you can sign up for membership and get a Membership #, create a character, and then assign the credit of the Chronicle to that character. The GM will just need that number (it is generally a 6-digit number followed by -1 for your first character, -2 for your 2nd, etc).

I’m assuming we’re still a go with this. Is everyone solid? With only 3 of us we don’t have any room for someone to not show as we’re at minimum table size as is.

I’d recommend the pregen NPC be Kyra, so she can focus on keeping us healed up.

I have a 5th level reach weapon Bard to bring, so it would not work for me too well if we ended up going with the 8-9 subtier.

Hi guys, joined in to fill the table out. I had kept an open slot til late so I could be a mensch and fill out a table. 🙂
Someone needs to tell Ellspeth that ALL regular games are suspended until after the Con! 😉

I can bring a Warpriest 6, Ranger 5, face Sorcerer 5, or Arcanist 7. A couple of those guys I have not played in ages, I would like to play any one of those or I could bring a Magus 8 who will be a monster. Let me know what you guys think so I can get my info off ASAP. Glad to join in 🙂

Glad to see we have hit the 4 we need to make sure the game goes off. You can all now discuss what you are bringing since a couple of you have options.

Looking forward to seeing all in a few days.

Since Im going to be pulling a pregen I can fill in where needed, would just prefer a melee class.

I was hoping to bring my reach weapon Bard 5. I haven’t played him in a while and one more session will round him off to 6th. This would require us sticking to the 5-6 subtier. If we went into the 8-9, I could bring along either my Gunslinger 7 or my Support Cleric 8, but I’d much prefer that Bard who is so tantalizingly close to 6th. 🙂

HG has something at 6th, but I’m not sure what that is.
Vladlock wants to bring a Rogue. The Pregen will be 7th and can tumble about the field flanking with my reach. He could cover traps and my bard can assist since he has the Halfling trait “Helpful” and can Aid Other for +4.

So maybe the Warpriest is looking like a good option? That one can heal, buff, and fight.

The Warpriest and Ranger are both Archers, they don’t do much buffing, and can both do some healing, so not much overall difference to the party. I’ll look them both over and pick one within a day. It will probably the WP since it’s been forever since I ran him.

And looks like we picked up another one. Nice. 🙂 This should be a good run.

Hey guys, i have a level 5 enchantment sorcerer, a level 7 (may be 8 by the time this session runs) Forgemaster cleric (swaps out channel energy so no party heals) and a level 8 skillmonkey/bomber alchemist thing. Would love to play the alchemist but i do not want to tip the party into high tier and spoil your fun, which i think leaves me with the sorcerer? If i can i would love to play either the alch or cleric BUT read last sentence, happy to fit in with party.

    October 16, 2015 at 13:16

I’ll be on the Level 6 Warpriest Archer and don’t mind playing up.

    October 16, 2015 at 21:14

So what have we got, Victor 6 Warpriest archer, cmdisc Bard 5, Chris Alchemist 8, Vladlock Pregen 7, Holognome 6 or 8. If 6 Average is 6.4, if 8 average is 6.8. So how does this work? Do we round down? Up? if it rounds up to 7 do we choose what tier? If we play high i can try and tank as my alchemist, can get a decent AC but will not ever do any damage in melee.

    October 18, 2015 at 05:35

We can see what Ben is bringing. But without that info yet:

6.4 will round down to APL 6 and put us into the 5-6 subtier. The Alchemist will be a bit overpowered for this possibly. In that event, would he consider a 7th level pregen? Or is he set on his Alchemist?

6.8 will round up to APL 7 will put us into the 8-9 subtier with the 4PC adjustment figured in. This will make the 5th and 6th level PCs a bit squishy, so they’ll have to hang back and let others run in first.

Looks like we have 6 now. I will try to get in contact with the GM and send him over my level 5 enchantment sorcerer, the level 8 will be too much if we low tier with 6 players.
