Ever want to play Fate? Ever want to play Fate on a Virtual Table Top (VTT)? Now’s your chance to do so using Fantasy Grounds.

 

Beginners are welcome to play through this scenario, Evil Hat Productions’ classic introductory one-shot adventure. (Players absolutely new to Fate should also sign up for the Fate Core Tutorial Prequel to this scenario, since that will allow time to teach Fate Core mechanics in depth.)

 

Overview of Night Fears:
Night Fears is a one-shot mystery-adventure set in any city or town. The PCs are a group of young teenagers about to enter high school together. In the final days of summer, on a dare, they decide to spend the night in an old house that’s said to be haunted:

The old Cranston house had stood unoccupied for as long as anyone could remember. Few spoke of why. After a while, everything just passed into rumor, and now nobody knows the truth for sure.

But everyone knows one thing: it’s one hell of a spooky house. If you can make it through the whole night in the Cranston house, you’ll be legendary back at school, kings and queens of the hallways.

So, anybody up for a dare? Come on, we can do it. It’ll be a scream.

 

Can the PCs last the entire night in the house—at least one of them? Will they remain friends, or will their experience during the night change them for good (or ill)?

NOTE: Night Fears is a Dresden Files RPG casefile. Both it and the tutorial prequel scenario will be played using Fate Core mechanics while retaining many elements of the Dresden Files RPG. (If this sounds confusing, it’s not.)

 

Player Characters: Pregenerated, customizable PCs will be provided—a mix of mortals and minor talents at the “Feet in the Water” power level. At the opening of the scenario, players will personalize their PCs by answering narrative questions about their history and relationships and by beginning to fill in additional aspects and skills on their character sheet. (Don’t worry, the GM will help with this process.)

To the extent possible, PC story and character developments that arose in the prequel session will carry forward into this session to weave a continuous narrative with the main adventure.

Playing Both Sessions Is Encouraged!: It is encouraged, although not required, for players to also sign up for the prequel scenario—especially those players new to Fate. Players will be able to play the same PC in both sessions and to carry forward story and character developments arising in the prequel into the main adventure (thereby aiding with the PC personalization process mentioned above).
